nathan bartell grew up in a little town called ashburn, georgia but soon moved to atlanta georgia where he began to perform in the night clubs. in 1973 he released �top going down, bottom going up� on the soul-po-tion label. bartell remembers: �at the time i was having family problems. my wife didn�t want me and i was deep in love. i felt at that time that i was at the bottom of the pit and i wanted to rise up out of that mess because my wife made me feel that i was a nobody. i was not good enough for her - nobody wants you when you are down and out. she felt that she were on the top and i was on the bottom. this song was a message at that time.� there is nothing for us to add except that we are delighted to bring this little beauty back to new life.

we decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double lp cut louder at 45 rpm. we have also included an unreleased extended version of �ice of fire� and the bonus track �intro�, found on the dat tapes fabrizio chiari sent us. all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. it is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by andrea gambetta. each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by intergalactic gary, who�s despair mix turned us onto to this album all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of a boy by pushe 27. each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by flemming dalum.

in the summer of 2016 hove went to france for two weeks to start writing and recording his new ep portes du soleil. together with his girlfriend they spent two weeks at le pascalet, a house in the woods of the cevennes, right outside the small village of st. etienne vallee franc&#807,,,aise. equipped with a sampler, a drum-machine,some synths, effect pedals and a mic for feld- recordings, he built the foundation of the 4 songs that would later become the ep portes du soleil. all the songs started out as live-jams. the goal was to create different moods and patterns inspired by the surroundings of the forest, long walks, playing petanque and plenty of pastis. the tracks were later fnalized back home at hoves studio in zurich. musically portes du soleil feels like the natural follow up to his debut ep journey to arendal. hoves tracks are wavering between sozzled grooves and warm, woozy atmospheres. field- recordings from their daily routine in and around the house were either used to enrich the ambiance, or as in calme infni, they were transformed into a whole song. even though portes du soleil was written during the summer, the record is not bound to any season it is simply an excerpt of hoves life in 2016.

�zibaldone i of cvx� is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi�s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert�s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! �zibaldone i� is presented as a 12� with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.

picking up where they left off three years ago, modern heads, the much-respected collaboration between gianluca meloni and dino sabatini, are back with a dynamic and intriguing four track ep. the duo go straight in here with the club-ready athena. throughout this track, tight percussive elements wind in and around one another, creating an ever-changing rhythm that you can only just hold onto. under this, tense synths pulse away, producing an opaque and insular atmosphere. next up, eumaeus lightens the mood somewhat, providing clarity with a distinct opening drum pattern. this mood doesnt last long though, as indiscernible, haunting vocals begin to echo in the distance, gradually moving closer and further in the mix as sharp pads swoosh either side. side b of the record opens with the deepest and longest track of the ep, eurycleia. simple yet unrelenting drums frame this hypnotic sci-fi episode, through which otherworldly screeches and rumbles reverberate over the twinkling sounds of machines. eurycleias atmosphere continues straight into the final track, laertes theme. this beatless piece takes eurycleias exploratory mood and extrapolates it over five and a half minutes, resulting in what feels like the perfect soundtrack to a glacial expedition in alien territory. as an ep this is a complete and coherent package, a perfect extension to modern heads previous work. the sound palette is familiar, yet refined, developed upon and taken further. the old beggar is undeniably worth the wait for anyone with a taste for the extraterrestrial.

over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. �a learning curve� is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g�s mesmerising �navigate� and k15�s introspective �the guilt within�, two very individual tracks in their own rights. �navigate� is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, �the guilt within� takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to �navigate�. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.
